Addendum: Update on: Brunton S, Collins N. Differentiating prescription omega-3-acid ethyl esters (P-OM3) from dietary-supplement omega-3 fatty acids. Curr Med Res Opin 2007;23(5):1139-45. doi:10.1185/030079907X188017.
This Commentary referred to the pharmaceutical agent prescription omega-3-acid ethyl esters (P-OM3) with reference to the product name Omacor capsules. The corresponding author of the article (Stephen Brunton) has advised that the manufacturer of the product, Reliant Pharmaceuticals, Liberty Corner, NJ, USA, has since changed the name of OMACOR (omega-3-acid ethyl esters) to LOVAZA at the request of the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in response to a limited number of reports of prescribing and dispensing errors due to similarities in name between OMACOR and Amicar (aminocaproic acid), a product of Xanodyne Pharmaceuticals, Florence, KY, and Boston, MA, USA. The name change is intended to minimize the potential for such errors in the future. OMACOR Prescribing Information has been updated to reflect the new name, and new clinical data has been added to the label. Published 6 December 2007 in Curr Med Res Opin.
